Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition

2002 Annual Report

The Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition (ENLC) moved through fiscal year 2002 at a brisk pace.  The Coalition started out the year as an unincorporated body of individuals and organizations that supported a common goal.  By year end ENLC was incorporated, had its own non-profit status and had a substantial list of accomplishments for a one-year old organization.  During FY2002 ENLC accomplished the following:

Purchased and donated ATV with spray rig to Tri-County Weed District for weed control

Facilitated treatment of 19,379 acres of weeds in 2002

Published a quarterly newsletter

Is working to establish a firm science based approach to understanding the dynamics of the ecosystems of eastern Nevada.

Held monthly meetings this past year to evaluate research projects and develop models which could be used as an assessment tool for evaluating landscape health.

Provided oversight on two University of Nevada research projects: Small Mammal & Passerine Bird Inventory and a hydrology study.  The data from these research projects will be available for the public and BLM’s use.

Assisted the BLM with development of watershed assessment approaches

Hosted dinner and tour for Kathleen Clarke, Director of the Bureau of Land Management

Made a presentation on the Coalition and its mission to the Regional American National Cattlewomen’s meeting in Reno.

Hosted a reception for key legislators’ public lands staff

Participated in the Nevada Public Lands Summit

Provided pre-planning input for BLM Ely District Resource Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement

Continued to educate the public at every opportunity about landscape restoration and ecosystem health

Participated on the White Pine and Lincoln County Sage Grouse Technical Review Teams

Started a library of restoration information

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation secured an National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant for ENLC.

By invitation, ENLC joined the White Pine County Coordinated Resource Management Steering Committee.
