ENLC Executive Director new president of NWMA

  • by

ENLC Executive Director Betsy Macfarlan has been elected the new president of the board of directors for the Nevada Weed Management Association (NWMA).

Established in 1995, NWMA provides education, legislative support, professional development, information sharing, and other services to entities and individuals on the management of invasive plant species on Nevada lands.

“I am really looking forward to taking a leadership role within this organization,” Macfarlan said. “NWMA is an excellent resource for weed management in Nevada, whether we’re educating the public, communicating with local Cooperative Weed Management Areas about infestations or helping concerned landowners stay up-to-date on legislation.”

NWMA is the only non-profit organization at present to sponsor and support legislation and associated programs essential for an effective weed management program in Nevada at the state level.

“We provide the forum for effective cooperation among federal, state, local, and private entities for the proactive prevention, control and ideally elimination of non-native, invasive plant species in this state,” Macfarlan said. “We feel we have a responsibility to act as that voice for the benefit of all land users in Nevada.”
