Lara Derasary

Natural Resource Specialist

Lara Derasary joined ENLC in 2006 as a natural resource specialist, focusing on wildland fire rehabilitation.

Lara was born and raised in California. She completed her BA at the University of California, Berkeley, in Political Economies of Industrial Societies, and her MSc in Earth Sciences, focusing on fluvial sedimentology, at James Cook University, Townsville, Australia. After returning to the United States, Lara moved to Moab, Utah where she worked in desert revegetation before being introduced to the BLM’s wildland fire rehabilitation program, following the 2002 Rattle Fire in eastern Utah.

The 2005 Southern Nevada Complex Fires brought Lara to Ely, Nevada, and to ENLC, where she has continued to develop and proffer her subject matter expertise in post-fire assessment, treatment design and implementation. Lara particularly enjoys opportunities to problem-solve and think outside the box that landscape-scale rehabilitation necessitates.
