The goal of this workshop is to introduce some of Nevada’s young people to the Great Basin from an ecological point of view by discussing a variety of topics. Participants in the workshop will learn about some of Nevada’s native plants , animals, habitat, geology and many other important ecological issues.
In past years we have covered such topics as wildlife identification, habitat of Great Basin animals, impacts on that habitat, weed identification and fish species. In 2010 we covered many topics dealing with plants in the landscape and invertibrates in the stream. We also learned about native plants in the area, what they do for the landscape, and the large issue we face with non-native species invasion.
The plan is to offer the workshop on an annual basis to up to 12 participants with different Great Basin subjects being offered each year. The program is free of charge and open to kids in grades 3 through 8, so put it on your calendar and check back here for updates on each years festivities.
