Ties Thompson

Elko Field Coordinator

Ties joined Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition in September 2023 as the Elko Field Coordinator.

She was born and raised in central Kansas, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Washburn University in 2015. Her professional journey commenced directly out of college with an Americorps service term through the Great Basin Institute in Reno, NV, where four months serving in fuels and forest reduction cemented both her dedication to environmental work and a deep love for the breathtaking landscapes and endless exploration offered by the western United States.

After completing her Americorps term, Ties ventured into the world of ecological consulting and has accrued a wide range of experience with a variety of species and habitats. Through 2020 she worked as field biologist for Western Ecosystems Technology, interfacing between landowners and turbine operators to research and reduce avian, chiropteran, and aquiline fatalities at several wind energy facilities in Kansas, Iowa, Texas, and Oregon. Since 2020 she has worked as a seasonal field biologist with a number of institutions, participating in projects concerning prairie chicken and sage grouse resource selection to help inform future land practices as well as riparian site monitoring and evaluation to assist in the environmental regulation of mining practices. With a strong safety background that includes MSHA certification and experience as a safety lead, Ties focuses on ensuring the well-being of teams in dynamic environmental settings.

In her world, each day is an opportunity to explore, conserve, and learn. Environmental work allows her to merge scientific knowledge with a deep commitment to conservation, fulfilling her driving belief that the natural world is humanity’s greatest treasure and resource. She is excited to bring these skills and passions to the restoration mission of the Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition.
